When I’m really into a novel, I’m seeing the world differently during that time— not just for the hour or so in the day when I get to read. I’m actually walking around in a haze, spellbound by the book and looking at everything through a different prism.

Lightroom Before and After #4 - World Book Day

As it is world book day today, I thought I would do one more before and after of one of my favourite photographs that I have taken recently.

The key here was to bring back the detail in the pages. Minimizing the highlights and exposure, thus brought back the magic of the written word, especially the page caught by a gust of wind.

The sepia tone really rings well with the subject. However notice it is through the involvement of split toning. The highlights appear a sepia tone through a light orange colour, however the backgrounds and shadows have a cooler appearance thanks to a dark blue.

I have a passion for teaching kids to become readers, to become comfortable with a book, not daunted. Books shouldn’t be daunting, they should be funny, exciting and wonderful; and learning to be a reader gives a terrific advantage.
